Spent a night in Arrowtown. The village is quaint and the Autumn

colour of the trees were "out of this world."

In a back street we found "The Lost Cafe"

Not so "Lost" as there were plenty of patrons

and they served a "mean" breakfast

Spent most of the day in Christchurch taking photos. Ended the day having a lovely meal with family at the Chateaux

Lake Matheson. Too cloudy for reflections. Walked up to thr Fox Glacier, on to Lake Paringa and Moeraki River (reflections), stopped on the side of the road and enjoyed some fleshly made whitebait fritters, Haaste bridge, Thunder Creek Falls and rapids, Fantail Falls. Then to Wanaka Club where we enjoyed a great dinner.

Traceys Visit

Had visitors all weekend, but still managed to get out with the Camera, spent a few hours with a friend at the Zoo on Sunday.

and on the Monday Tracey was happy to play so we spent some time at the Manurewa gardens. We were on the search for Dragon flies...

We were indeed lucky to find a Damsel fly, as I think their season is almost gone

I actually went out looking for Autumn Leaves. I did take some, but decided not to put them on my Blog. Not yet, anyway.Funnily enough, the Toi tois took my fancy today.

I am so lucky to live so close to such a wonderful Park. No matter how many times I visit, there are always new flowers and plants for me to photograph.

The beautiful rich Autumn colours of the Red Hot Poker make me believe that Autumn is just around the corner

Today was to have been an Artistic Impression Workshop at Kariotahi Beach. Due to inclement weather is was cancelled. Because this was an area that I have never ventured to, Ross and I decided to go "take a look".

Blake Twigden's Bird Park

Visited a wonderful Bird Park in Whitford a week ago. What a treat. The birds were plentiful and varied. Blake showed us through his large avairy, feeding the different birds as we walked through. He also had 2 turtles and two lizards. When asked if he had any frogs, he didnt comment but later in the morning appeared with a frog that he had caught in another area. My photos dont do justice to the birds, but I will share them anyway.

International Buskers Weekend

Had an interesting trip to Auckland to photograph some of the Buskers.
The powers that be decided that Anniversary weekend was a great time to "stop the train service for maintenance". It was also a bad call on our part to catch a "Rail" bus.
We have two routes to Auckland on the rail. One, reasonably quick through Newmarket (about 35minutes) and the other taking a lot longer through Orakei.
Well, of course the bus went through Orakei stopping at every station and the trip took almost 2 hours.
I might also add that that we must have bounced on every bump and rut on the roads.

Havent been to the Water Gardens for at least 2 years. They have a large variety of Succulents, lots of Lotus Blossoms, Waterlilies and many other interesting objects to view. Didnt get to see many Dragonflies but I was more interested in the Lotus Flowers.

Yet another day, and back to searching for Dragonflies once again. They were in the ponds, but were having none of us. The larger flies were born to tease. They would fly by, settle in the water, and the moment that I tried to focus on them, they would move on.
However I had more luck than yesterday and managed to score a few photos.

Another very hot day and off to find Dragon flies. The first stop was the Botanical Gardens in Manurewa where I live. Sure, we found dragonflies but they very very fast and very small. The results were disappointing and hardly worth putting on my Blog.

Auckland Zoo

Yesterday, as my daughter was up from Wellington, we decided to venture forth once more to the Auckland Zoo. With cameras at the ready, we braved the very hot sun. Alas we were quite disappointed. Only part of the Zoo was accessable as it seems to be having a major "Make-over" and because of the heat the rest of the Zoo appeared to be having a siesta.

Journeyed to Paihia to visit with friends and family.

My daughter was staying in Paihia with family, plus we have very dear friends living in Whangarei, so combined they were a great excuse to take the camera and visit. Whilst we were in the area we visited the Treaty House and enjoyed the hospitality of their facilities

The weather was extremely hot and reminded me of the last time I was in the area when the temperatures were also uncomfortable.

Awhitu is a Surf Beach on the West Coast of New Zealand. It is a fascinating place and a dangerous beach.

Signals Army Reunion - Palmerston North

Over the past few days Ross and I have been tripping around part of the North Island. The impetus of the journey was the Reunion of the RNZ Signals. We drove to Palmerston North where we met up with friends who now live in Nelson and made the aquaintance of their delightful grandsons and enjoyed their hospitality.

Napier Marine Parade

The Marine Parade is an interesting place. They have a massive Skateboarding Park, lots of interesting sights, a wonderful fountain which unfortunately was "closed for cleaning".

One could almost spend a day just in this area.

From there we drove through to Napier where I met up with a second cousin for the first time. She had been adopted at birth and had only just gotten to know her "Birth" family.

Then on through Taupo to Rotorua where I met up with a fellow photographer.We visited briefly then decided to head for home.

Rotorua holds an attraction for me, for that is where I was born.

Arts on Parade

In 1887, Robert Lamb, an early Napier architect and engineer from Darlington, England designed a plan for much of the Marine Parade. Although few of his houses remain, this block of houses has been preserved in the spirit of "Napier - the Art Deco City"

Our next stop was the Overland Gannet Safari. We were able to get within 3 feet of the Gannets. Needles to say I didnt get many photos, I gues I wasnt quite quick enough

Auckland Zoo is currently going through change - there is a large new area being developed We are soon to be getting a herd of Elephants to add to the new displays.

We will be able to walk among the Tamarins on boardwalks.

Whilst we were there yesterday the first of the Tamarins were introduced into their new home

We spent some time in Manukau this weekend looking at the Full Throttle Car show. I was particularly taken with the cars badges in all their shiney chrome.

Mt Ruapehu

For the past 16 years a group of Camera Clubs have joined together at Mt Ruapehu to photograph the snow. In all this time it has only snowed twice. This year again there was no snow. In all we had a great time and enjoyed excellent camaraderie. The weather was great and I was fortunate enough to be driven to the top of the mountain and get some lovely images to share.
